The future of basketball was on display on June 21 as 60 players were selected in the 2018 National Basketball Association (NBA) Draft. The Phoenix Suns held the first overall pick and used it to select 7-foot, 261-pound center Deandre Ayton from the University of Arizona. Known for his rebounding skills, Ayton is also a complete player with above-average scoring and playmaking abilities. His defensive game needs work, but he produced an impressive 20.1 points, 11.6 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game last season as a freshman and was named the Pac-12 Player of the Year.

Duke power forward Marvin Bagley III went second overall to the Sacramento Kings, while Luka Doncic was taken third overall by the Atlanta Hawks, but later dealt to the Dallas Mavericks for fifth overall pick Trae Young a future first-round draft pick. Michigan State power forward Jaren Jackson Jr. was selected fourth overall by the Memphis Grizzlies.
